I am a piano player and songwriter. I sing only because I need someone to sing my songs. I have a wonderful family, my beautiful wife Kristen, and three wonderful children!
This song is based on 1 Kings 19:11-12. Stephanie played the beautiful acoustic accompaniment. We do this one live on occasion and its fun. Thanks Steph!
I have a love-hate relationship with this song. Well, more like a like-hate relationship. Anyways, be forewarned that this song, I think, is pretty different from my others.
A song for Kristen. When I wrote this song I was a little surprised myself at all the amazing places I've been and things I've seen. I am incredibly fortunate. After playing this song for Kristen, we made a goal to visit each of these eight places (that I talk about in the song) together. I visited these places before meeting her. So far we have one down and seven to go. The night I proposed to her, we went to Monterey, CA and watched the sun set into the ocean. Now we just need to take a trip to the Grand Canyon (now that we're in Arizona thats an easy one), Florida, Canada, and Europe.
By the way, I'm posting two songs in the same day, so if you missed it, there's another new song below :) Thanks for listening!
Wrote this one a while ago, finally got it recorded. This is the most repetitive song I've ever written (you don't want to know the chord "progression"), but hopefully it doesn't feel that way too much. I tried to make the song build from beginning to end. Hopefully that and, what I hope are quality lyrics, distract from the repetition.
"My Beautiful" makes its long-awaited arrival! This is the song I sang to Kristen just before I proposed. The last picture in the video is of the shore in Monterey, CA where I asked her to marry me. My life is now so wonderful and happy because she said yes!
This is one of the first songs I ever wrote, and I think I've grown a lot as a songwriter since then. But, for obvious sentimental reasons, this song remains as a favorite to both Kristen and me.
I only have one experience of real "heartbreak" to draw from, which is what this song is about. It was at the beginning of the Fall 05, after Kristen and I had dated all Summer, and we had to be apart for the coming semester. I guess I'm lucky that this is the only experience I've had, because it turned out happy, when we were back together and engaged just a couple weeks later (we couldn't wait the whole semester).
So that is what the song is about to me, but I think that it can be taken a few different ways...
